What is the KIDD™ Initiative?
Sadly, 1 of every 3 children is at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes in their lifetime. The future cost of that statistic in healthcare and lives lost is unacceptable – especially when Type 2 diabetes may be prevented as much as 95% of the time with appropriate information and education. The KIDD™ Initiative is a collection of programs designed to reach out to children, parents and school nurses, teachers and administrators to provide them with tools for:
- Early identification of diabetes
- To prevent diabetes through lifestyle changes
- To create a healthier school environment
KIDD™ Defeat Diabetes® Screening Test Program
Currently targets elementary, middle schools and high schools throughout the country by distributing our unique Defeat Diabetes® Screening Test brochure Free of Charge. We believe that the earlier diabetes is addressed the better chance to control it or even prevent it.
Over the life of this program we have distributed over 5 million of these tests to schools and other organizations in all 50 states providing life saving information to over 20 million individuals nationwide. Here’s a letter we received from one school nurse:
Thanks so much for sending the screening test brochures. We were actually surprised to identify 4 of our students that had the symptoms of diabetes and were subsequently diagnosed with disease. We also identified another ten who were at significant risk. We may have saved some lives here.

KIDD™ School Speaking Program
Is a pilot 9 county program that conducts direct outreach to children in the classroom. Information about diabetes including: early detection, symptoms, risk factors and prevention methods are discussed in a classroom setting. In 2013 we conducted multiple presentations to students at 10 schools in the Tampa Bay Area region connecting with over 1,000 children between 7 – 17 with life-saving information about diabetes and its prevention. Here’s what some of the teacher’s had to say:
Wonderful topic/presentation that middle school students MUST see!
Scott Murphy, Seminole Middle School
The speakers were engaging, informative and entertaining.
Mrs. Keller, Corpus Christi School
Temple Terrace, FL
A health related curriculum designed for schools, youth and community organizations to educate children and their community about diabetes. The materials come on a convenient CD and include a teacher’s manual, lesson plans, power point presentations, quizzes and answer keys, activity sheets, posters and more.
The wonderful thing about this program is it is comprehensive and already DONE for you. This program was so easy to implement because very little needed to be changed. More importantly, the feedback from the parents of my students has been outstanding.
